Workforce Development/Manufacturing Support Committee

2010 GOAL (Combined with Education Workforce Development Committee): Collaborate with area Education entities to develop a plan that addresses the workforce development issues related to available positions in our area and focuses on educating our youth for the future.

Manufacturing Support Mission: Address common industry issues and concerns for the benefit of area manufacturing.

Manufacturing Support Commitments:
? Work to develop programs in our schools and community to teach the importance of manufacturing. Create and utilize educational programs to ensure our youth have a path forward that will assist them in the workforce today and tomorrow. Implement the CEO’s in the Schools program in Carlton County.
? Collaborate with the Education and Workforce Committee, Workforce Investment Board (WIB) and local School Districts to develop and execute a regional workforce and education strategic plan.
? Investigate methods for retaining and attracting young people to stay and work in the community.
? Use educational programs to promote forestry multiple use principles, sound forest management concepts and sustainable forest policies.
? Organize an event annually for the recognition of local manufacturing during Manufacturing Week.
? Address “common” industry issues and concerns for the benefit of area manufacturing industries.
? Support forest products manufacturing in their efforts to maintain or expand operations in the Cloquet community.
? Maintain ongoing open communication with the local industries in order to promptly address and respond to their needs and to identify potential legislative issues.
? Work with the Legislative Affairs Committee to develop lobbying initiatives at the local, state and federal levels to enhance the business environment for local manufacturers.

Education and Workforce Development Committee

Mission Statement:  To create effective interfaces among residents/government/education/business for economic and community improvement-bridging the needs of all through collaboration.
Vision Statement: To foster/enhance the educational system as a Strategic Asset for the Business community, promoting economic growth of the community.

Objective: Work with FDLTCC and Carlton County area schools to Enhance Workplace Development.
A. Coordinate discussions between the business community and the school district to facilitate an effort to determine the needs of the business community.
B. Participate in Cloquet Days at the State Capital to assist FDLTCC and schools with funding or other needs.
C. P-14 connection – curriculum coordinator.

Objective: Remain Supportive of Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College in efforts to expand.
A. Maintain ongoing open communications and interaction with the College, in order to promptly address their needs.
B. Respond to the College’s need in a concise and realistic manner.
C. Meet with other communities to determine how relationships worked with regard to recent college expansions (i.e. St. Cloud and Bemidji). 

Objective: Establish a mechanism to address education related issues for benefit of the Carlton County Educational System.
A. Maintain ongoing open communications and interaction the school districts, in order to promptly address their needs.
B. Respond to the district’s need in a concise and realistic manner.
